Church Langley overwhelmed by community spirit following break in.

Posted On: 11 June 2019

Despite the horrors of finding our PE container broken into and equipment strewn across the site, most of which had been needlessly vandalised, the reaction of the parents and community of Church Langley has managed to lift our spirits during this very sad time. Just after Easter, we were shocked to find that teenage vandals had once again caused extensive damage to fencing surrounding the school's astro turf. In addition, they had intentionally damaged the outside water tap, the drinking fountain and the electric light box - which had only been replaced two weeks prior to this at a cost of £700. Sadly, worse was to follow, as we discovered that the vandals had gained entry into our large PE store, which houses equipment used by all the primary schools in Harlow as part of the School Games events. To say we were devastated was an understatement, particularly when we learned from the community that some of the vandals involved were ex-pupils who had enjoyed many hours benefitting from the very same facilities.

The community response was amazing, not only providing the names and photographic evidence of the intruders which was passed to the police but in raising awareness of our plight. We have been contacted by the local MP and Councillors, the Premier League, local businesses such as Bidfood all of whom were willing to provide donations to replace equipment. Special thanks must go to Claire Saunders (Bidfood) who has raised money and purchased equipment fro the school. Equally, our heartfelt thanks are extended to Jennifer Embleton whose Go Fund Me page has raised a staggering amount of money. These acts of kindness and the wealth of amazing messages of support has lifted spirits - out of adversity comes triumph.
