Important Update regarding Industrial Action on Wednesday 1st March 2023

Dear Parents,

I am writing to inform you of arrangements for the day of strike action planned by the National Education Union (NEU) this Wednesday, 1st March. As you know, the NEU has called for its members to take strike action regarding pay and conditions of service. It was hoped that this might be averted through dialogue with the government, but this has not yet happened.

As a result of planned action by teachers, it will not be possible for us to safely accommodate all pupils tomorrow and meet our safeguarding and supervision responsibilities to all. Therefore, School will be partially closed and children in the following classes will be required to stay at home on Wednesday 1st March:

  • Mrs Swetman’s Class
  • Mrs Jethwa’s Class
  • Miss Heath’s Class
  • Mrs Hible’s Class
  • Mr Stacey/Mrs Adam’s Class
  • Miss Fuller’s Class
  • Mrs Riley’s Class

Children in all other classes should come to school as usual.

Those children who are not in school could:

  • Practise their times tables on TT Rockstars
  • Read either on Bug Club or read their reading book
  • Practise their spellings on Spelling shed
  • Revisit previously taught grammar and maths skills for which homework has been set (they can refer back to their Home School books for this)

Pupils who are entitled to Free School Meals (this is not the universal infant meal that is ordinarily available to children in Reception and KS1) but cannot attend School tomorrow due to strike action may collect a pre-ordered packed lunch from School between 12 and 12.30 pm on Wednesday 1st March if they wish to do so. We ask that eligible parents pre-order a packed lunch by 5.00 p.m. today (Tuesday 28th February) by sending an email request, entitled PACKED LUNCH to admin@churchlangley.essex.sch.uk - thank you.

We apologise for any inconvenience these unavoidable plans may cause and sincerely hope that a resolution is reached with central government before the next planned day of strike action on Wednesday 15th March 2023.

 Kind regards,

 Stacey Ward
