Ride Britain Cycling – Breathtaking finish

What a way to start the new academic year of sport! Friday’s scorching weather didn’t stop children from Year 6 attending the finish to Stage 6 of the Ride Britain Tour.

Starting from school and meeting at the Harlow Rugby, the children cycled along the cycle paths and crossed busy roads under the guidance of adult staff. Once at the finish line, the children were superbly marshalled by Donna Last from Harlow Council who provided refreshments, safe bike storage and a designated viewing area right on the finish line. The cyclists got to experience riding along the finishing straight in front of a noisy crowd, who cheered and banged the barriers in excitement. This was an amazing experience which many of the spectators who were avid cycling enthusiasts were very envious of!

Ice lollies were provided by Mr Stacey to keep the children cool until the exciting finish. The children waited patiently, enjoying meeting various company reps from Harlow including Police Officers who provided free bike theft-prevention tracking stickers and the Ride Britain mascot. The arrival of the overhead drone and helicopter, signalled a sprint finish and the cyclists sped past at incredible speed. After the podium presentations were concluded, the cyclists made their way back to school. Thanks to all the attending Year 6 pupils and members of staff. The children were impeccably well behaved and a real credit to our school.
