KiK - a parent's guide

Posted On: 25 September 2018

As you are aware, as a school we endeavour to provide parents with information about recent updates to online safety. It has been reported this week that the number of UK child abuse reports relating to Kik, a popular messaging app, has quadrupled in the last 2 years. The app allows users to join anonymously without a phone number, leaving children at risk, with a monthly average of 195 reports per month relating to grooming and child abuse images via this app.

More information about the recent report from the National Police Chiefs’ Council, can be found at https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/09/21/children-risk-kik-app-senior-police-officer-warns-child-abuse/.

As a National Online Safety Certified School, parents are able to access a wealth of information for keeping their children safe online via https://onlinesafetyworld.com/school-course-access/ and using the code LANGLEY300 to use the service free of charge. A parents’ guide to Kik can be found on our school website.
