Creative Week - Year 4 Art Work

In Year 4, the children learned about the artist Salvador Dali who is known for his Surrealist style. They found out that the word 'surrealist' means 'beyond reality' and that surrealist art is an expression of dreams and the unreal rather than something that is true and rational. After researching Dali's life and studying a range of his artwork, the children's attention was focused on the painting 'The Elephants' from which the children created their own versions of this piece. Firstly, they followed instructions to sketch their elephants with long stilt like legs adding details to their scene. Then, they used watercolours to mix and blend warm or cold colours to create a wash effect background. In addition, the children used their sketching and shading skills to draw a true representational drawing of an elephant head.
