Creative Week - Year 6 Art Work

In Year 6, the children used a piece of artwork created by Gustav Klimt called 'The Tree of Life' as the stimulus for their work during Creative Week. The Tree of Life was not devised by Klimt; the idea of it has existed in many different cultures and religions for hundreds of years. It is believed to symbolise the connection between life and the after-life, or indeed heaven and hell. The complexity of the twisted branches represent the complicated and tangled nature of life and Klimt intentionally wanted the viewer of his piece to be drawn into the picture and to spend time exploring it in detail.
- The children explored the use of different and less familiar media for their artwork: twisting wire and beads to sculpt trees, making sure that to twist the branches in a way that reflected Klimt's style
- curling strips of paper (quilling) to create trees that were covered in blossom and
- using the craft of batik to create a stylised representation of the branches on silk cloth.
