Christmas Singing Out and About

Posted On: 11 December 2014

A group of Year 6 children have been spreading some Christmas cheer and festive goodwill by singing range of Christmas songs and traditional carols within the local community. This has become an annual event and we have returned to many of the venues visited previously by personal invitation. In an email correspondence to the school, a spokesperson from Asda told us that the Church Langley Community Singing Programme was an event that they looked forward to every year. “Christmas hasn’t started until Church Langley have come to sing at Asda”.

Similarly the residents of Wrights Court Sheltered Accommodation in Potter Street were delighted to welcome the children into their communal lounge. The reaction from the residents was fantastic; some were moved to tears; some were joining in with the singing and some were keen to encourage the children to get up and dance. One resident commented that the children should be on X Factor as they were sure that they could win! Another resident told the children that they “should be incredibly proud of themselves and that they were a tribute to their school”.

A new venue for us this year was Harlow Garden Centre. The reaction to the children’s singing was fantastic. One spectator reported that the children “were an absolute credit to the school”.

In order for the programme to be successful, the children have had to give up many of their lunchtimes to rehearse. There have been more new songs to learn than ever before so it has been a real challenge for all those involved. However, the programme has once again been a huge success. The ‘Out and About’ singers have certainly spread their sparkle around Harlow as they have represented our school.
