Church Langley dominate Rounders Finals

Posted On: 07 June 2025

For a while it was looking ‘touch and go’ as to whether this year’s event would actually take place as torrential rain prevented Mr Stacey from marking out the pitches at Harlow Town CC; in fact even as all the schools arrived on Friday morning, he was marking out the last pitch!

With some late withdrawals by other schools, 12 teams descended upon the beautiful outfields of the cricket club to take part in a series of matches. As usual, all the children made great progress throughout the day as they gained experience of what is a very ‘challenging’ game, with many complicated rules. Having had early morning training for the whole week (starting at 8am) the two Church Langley teams were well organised and able to exploit their extensive understanindg of the game to make it to the final game.

By mid-afternoon, the two finalist from Church Langley were battling it out for the top prizes; the Year 5’s just edging a close final against their Year 6 teammates. Primary School Sports Manager and Deputy Head teacher, Mr Stacey was delighted for all the schools who took part, and particualry those from CL who had worked really hard in the early mornings.

“Yet again, another great event completed this year! We give thanks to the enthusiasm of the pupils and the dedication of the wonderful school staff; rounders is a tough game and takes hours of practise in order to play to such a high standard – well done all!”

Harlow MP Chris Vince was on hand to witness the great work that goes into organising such events which occur on a weekly basis in Harlow. It was pointed out, that this is not standard across the County (or country as a whole) and the primary school pupils of Harlow are very fortunate to have such opportunities on a weekly basis.

The 12 teams involved: Hare Street x 2; Church Langley x 2: Newhall x 2; Potter Street x 2: Purford Green x 2: Pemberley Academy: and Fawbert & Barnard.
