Art in Year 4 (2023-2024)

In Year 4, the children have been developing their sculpture skills by making 3D masks inspired the ancient Mayan civilisation. First the children learnt about sculpture in their local community and throughout Harlow town. Next, they used wire mesh to shape the face then added layers of mod roc to strengthen and add depth to their design. To finish their masks, the children used a range of colours to paint designs and add patterns. In addition, they have been learning to shade and use cross-hatching to emphasise darker and lighter tones using sketching pencils and pastels. They applied these skills to their observational drawings of fruits and vegetables.
